Arms Acres is looking for a new Medical Director to lead the team at our inpatient facility in Carmel, NY. In this role, the right candidate will oversee medical staff and services throughout the organization. This includes oversight of the development and revision of medical policies, procedures and ongoing training.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborative supervision with the program director of non-medical staff in the provision of substance use disorder services
  • Supervision of medical staff in the performance of medical services
  • Oversight of the development of policies and procedures to ensure the provision of routine services
  • Oversight of the establishment of policies and procedures for public health education and screening
  • Assistance in the development of necessary referral and linkage relationships with other institutions and agencies
  • Ensure the program complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Responsible for admitting and discharge diagnoses for patients
  • Review and approve organizational policies related to medical care
  • Oversee medical care for patients in both inpatient and outpatient services
  • Respond to medical emergencies
  • When appropriate, refer patients to higher levels of care
  • Attend treatment meetings
  • Conduct history and physical and documents results
  • Conduct patient education regarding medical care and medication
  • Make educational presentations for staff and outside professionals
  • Involved with the hiring and oversight of all medical staff
  • Ensure on-call coverage for medical services
  • Act as a member of selected committees in the organization including being a voting a member of the Governing Body
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Medical School Degree with NY State Medical License
  • Residency certificate
  • Experience in detoxification/addiction medicine
  • ABMS, ABAM, AOA Board eligible or certified
  • ASAM certification preferred
  • Psychiatry experience preferred
  • Two to four years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Medical Staff Management/supervision experience
